Why Should You Service Your Strimmer?

The strimmer is a very useful tool for keeping your garden’s greenery looking excellent throughout the seasons. Due to their design, strimmers are designed to reach the areas that are inaccessible to your lawn mower. They use a nylon line instead of a blade, in which the line spins at an incredibly fast pace. Making it the perfect tool to use on your grass, weeds, and plants – without damaging the surrounding material.

Here at Barlaston Tool Shed we can ensure your strimmer is working in tip top condition all year round! Including a full investigatory inspection by our senior technician, that has over 30 years experience, to identify any issues as well as the ordering and fitting any required parts. With regular servicing, your strimmer will be guaranteed to perform to its optimum potential!

Replace The Air and Fuel Filters in Your Strimmer

Proper maintenance adds years onto the lifespan of your strimmer. Keeping it running smoothly and preventing you from a breakdown!  Overtime, air filters can become clogged with debris and require deep cleaning. Replacing the air filter promotes the maintenance of a healthy and safe environment. Clogged or dirty air filters can end up causing the engine to overheat, not run efficiently, and pollute the environment. Moreover, it could also be a fire hazard – making it beneficial to replace, as it could potentially lead to costly repairs! The engine will begin to struggle when it’s overdue for a replacement filter.

The fuel filter effectively strains the gas before reaching the carburettor, preventing your carburettor from become clogged. Replacing the fuel filter will secure any contaminants that may make their way into the fuel, protecting other elements of your machine.

Clean Them!

Furthermore, as forementioned you can also clean out your air filters. Simply remove it from your strimmer and soak it in warm water, then carefully leave out to dry. You can also use an air line to blow out any debris (dust and dirt). However this may not be as thorough for tough debris!

Replace The Strimmer Spark Plug

In order to have a well performing strimmer, the spark plug is required to have an powerful spark. The electrodes on a spark plug must be clean and sharp to produce the powerful spark required for ignition. Your spark plug will suffer from typical wear and tear throughout usage, so regular inspection is recommended! Ideally your spark plug should be checked/replaced after every 25 hours of use or once a season (dependent on usage).

Fuel

Occasionally you may find your strimmer wont start. This could be a rather common problem, but often an easy fix. For example it could be due to the forementioned spark plug, however it could also be as east as topping up the petrol tank!

Leaving petrol in the machine for prolonged periods of time can additionally cause some issues! Draining the fuel before storing away can prevent your strimmer from a clogged carburettor. Here at the tool shed, we can also clean the carburettor if so required. Moreover, you can add a fuel stabiliser to additionally prevent this.

For battery powered strimmers – maximise the lifespan of battery operated strimmers, ensure you disconnect the battery when not in use. This will guarantee you maintain battery health and charge. Furthermore, in the cooler months we advise storing your batteries inside for the forementioned reasons.

Full Strimmer Health Check
